Short-billed Dowitcher |
|
Found and photographed by Jack Lefor. Juvenile "Prairie" Short-billed is probably the easiest plumage to differentiate among Dowitcher plumages. The fall adults for both Long-billed and Short-billed Dowitchers obtain a dull gray plumage. |
Taken: 2005-08-28 |
Juvenile Long-billed shows gray above, rusty flanks. Short-billeds show rusty back, upper breast and flanks. Photo at Patterson Lake, Dickinson where Short-billed Dowitchers are rare at best. |
